As Staticus’ team of designers continues to grow, Marius Nevecka has been appointed Head of the Design Division. Part of Staticus’ Business Development department, the Design Division handles realisation and execution design activities for projects, including technical design and 3D design. It also works closely with the Concept Design and Structural Design teams to ensure continuity across the value chain.
Marius took time out to explain more about the specifics of his new role. He highlights the value early engagement and client-centricity can bring. He also outlines his personal goals for this new role, including being a go-to contact point for clients on design matters, and providing support, coaching, and clarity to Staticus’ design professionals.
The title of my role is Head of Design Division, and I will effectively be covering the design activities at the realisation and execution stage. When we secure a project, we begin with technical design, and then go through structural design, 3D modelling, and workshop design. I will be directly responsible for leading technical and 3D design, and all design managers will be directly reporting to me.
I plan to make this role my own by focusing on clarity. I think of this clarity in three ways: clear expectations, clear processes, and clear interfaces between the different design teams. Having these will help every member of the team understand not just what they have to do, but also why they are doing it. It is about understanding the bigger picture and seeing how our activities fit into the whole value chain.
In essence, what excites me most is the opportunity to influence project design both earlier and more strategically. Since the Design Division is part of Staticus’ Business Development activities, we can contribute earlier to tenders and improve the continuity between different design stages. In turn, this will help to close any gaps between concept, technical design, and production design. This early involvement is something I am particularly excited about because it allows us to add more value from the very beginning of a project.
I will also prioritise building a strong design organisation with highly coordinated and collaborative teams capable of learning from each other and continuously raising the standards of our work.
To achieve this, I will be working closely with our design managers. Strategically, strong design management will benefit our overall organisation a lot, and our design managers play a key role at Staticus. My goal is to better understand the challenges they face – both with clients and internally – through coaching. I also want to lead by example in terms of emphasising the importance of collaboration.
Finally, I want to establish stronger connections across the different design stages. To this end, I will be working closely with Concept Design, Structural Design, and Workshop Design. Continuity is crucial because, if we fail at any point, everyone suffers. I want to make sure that does not happen.
I will be spending more time in direct communication with clients. I want to understand challenges from both sides – what we face as a façade contractor, but also what problems clients have and what support they expect from us. We understand how valuable it is for clients to have a single person they can contact for strategic level design matters, and I look forward to fulfilling this role.
In terms of the team itself, I want the Design Division to function as an organisation within the company, one that people trust and feel proud to be a part of. Our division should not be a bottleneck in the company, but instead a force that drives Staticus forward.
Basically, I want our teams to feel supported and challenged at the same time, and to be clear about what is expected from them. I will also make every effort necessary to develop strong leaders within the design teams, especially our design managers and team leads, so that responsibility is shared and decisions are taken at the right level.
I would say this role is a natural continuation of what I have been doing for many years at Staticus. I have worked closely with technical design, project teams, production, installation, and workshop design, so I understand the full design life cycle and know where problems typically arise.
My experience as Technical Design Lead helped me realise the importance of structure, quality, and accountability. These are principles that I can now apply at a broader level and across teams, working on improving collaboration and continuity across the whole value chain. But the foundation – understanding how design works from concept through to installation – comes from all those years of hands-on experience.
I see plenty of opportunities for Staticus to differentiate ourselves in the market, especially through design quality, consistency, and early technical engagement. Clients increasingly value reliable solutions that reduce risk, not just attractive concepts. We often receive feedback from clients praising our attention to detail and the quality of our technical support. Naturally, our aim is to strengthen this client-centric approach even further.
In terms of early engagement, by getting involved in projects earlier we can optimise designs for both cost and performance. Furthermore, we can leverage standardisation, digital tools, and our knowledge from different projects to add value.
In summary, a well-organised design team will directly support our competitiveness and speed in the market. We have built a strong technical team with over 20 years of sector experience and talent from across Europe. This makes us confident in what we do and willing to share our expertise with clients, supporting them from the very early stages.
As I mentioned, they can expect more transparency and clear communication, so they understand how decisions are made and also have a clear picture of what is expected from their side. And of course, they can expect support, especially in complex situations.
Luckily, I have some experience with coaching and supporting managers already. In my previous role, I worked closely with senior technical designers, which involved regular coaching. Colleagues would often contact me about project issues and sometimes even personal matters related to mental health. Now I will be applying this experience with department heads who are already managers themselves. It is a different challenge, but it will also serve as a learning opportunity, and I am sure our People team will support me on this journey.
Overall, members of the team can expect a focus on continuous improvement (and not on blame), and an environment where we can all do good work and grow professionally.
Staticus has a very distinctive culture, and it is very important to me that the Design Division is aligned with it and strengthens it.
We recently conducted a survey to check how our team feels regarding Staticus’ culture. It revealed that we are familiar with the 4 main behaviours the organisation wants to instill, and we understand how to live these behaviours in our everyday work.
Staticus is an organisation where growing mentally and developing soft skills is important, it is not just about the hard skills. So, my goal is to continue working with management on developing Staticus’ culture, while bringing this culture to my team.
After work, you can find me at the gym most days. And on Tuesdays I play basketball with colleagues – we have been doing this for 6 years now, and will definitely be continuing in 2026. In terms of basketball, we also have a tradition to travel together to watch the Lithuanian team Žalgiris play a Euro League game somewhere. Last year, we went to Dubai, so we will see where we end up this year.
One fairly new activity in my life outside of work is skiing. I now go on a ski trip every winter – this year, I am going to Italy. And in Vilnius we have a small ski slope within the city that I go to on weekends for practice.
