We are proud and excited to have signed the contract to deliver the aluminium glazed façade for The Whale, a new whale attraction in Northern Norway featuring breathtaking architecture.
The Whale aims to be a world-class attraction that blends science and art in order to create encounters between humans and whales. It will be located in the village on Andenes, 300km inside the arctic circle, just metres from the Atlantic Ocean at a point that is world-famous for whale migrations.
The facility will feature a stunning design by architects Dorte Mandrup that is already receiving international acclaim:
– The building rises like a hill and features a parabolic roof.
– Under the roof there is a wide, column-free hall with an expansive glazed façade that offers panoramic views of the mountains and ocean,
– It is inspired by the beautiful surroundings and uses a stone covering to blend in with the natural environment.
We will be handling the design, production and installation of the 1537 sq.m façade for the Whale, including 590 sq.m of soffit. “This glass and aluminium façade is unique, with each panel bent and no vertical profiles,” says Tomas Bučas, Nordics Regional Director at Staticus.
The Whale is another opportunity for us to collaborate with HENT AS, who are general contractors on this project. We are delighted to once again be working with HENT, and look forward to a close and successful collaboration with all project partners.
