Unitised curtain wall installation

While the installation of a unitised curtain wall may look seamless, every element follows a carefully controlled sequence. 🏗️

It starts with surveying the structure and adjusting the brackets, followed by preparing and lifting the panel into position. Throughout the process, the safety remains a key priority, with certified lifting equipment, controlled lifting operations, and secure working methods in place before the element is released and the installation is completed.

This video captures that sequence in action at our Landspítali Laboratory Building project in Reykjavík, Iceland – with the final panel taking its place on the façade. A great milestone for the team and another important step towards completing the building envelope.

The element installation sequence:

  1. Survey the opening and structure
    Verify slab edges, embeds, brackets, fixing points, tolerances, and survey coordinates before installation starts.
  2. Install and adjust façade brackets
    Fix the unitised system brackets/anchors to the concrete slab or steel structure and set them to the required line, level, and position.
  3. Prepare the unitised panel for lifting
    Inspect the panel for damage, confirm identification and orientation, attach certified lifting equipment, and secure any loose components.
  4. Lifting & Hoisting
    Qualified personnel attach certified lifting beams, slings, and equipment to the element’s designated points, then hoist and move it into installation position
  5. Secure the panel permanently
    Tighten or lock the required fixings and restraints according to the approved installation drawings and specified torque requirements.
  6. Complete perimeter and interface seals
    Install any required membranes, gaskets, fire stops, insulation, sealants, pressure-equalisation components, or interfaces around slab edges and adjoining construction.
  7. Final Fixing & Release
    Once correctly positioned, all required connections and locking details are completed, and after confirming the element is fully supported and secured, the lifting equipment is released.
