Extreme Ownership I

Culture is easy to talk about. Harder to show.

At Staticus, we spent months getting specific about how we expect each other to behave – as a team and with everyone we work with. Four behaviours came out of it: Extreme Ownership, Never Settle, No Brilliant Jerks, and Cut the Noise. A workshop with Erin Meyer – author of The Culture Map and co-author of No Rules Rules – helped us find the right direction. The rest was our own work.

But defining behaviours on paper means nothing if they don’t show up in the room. So instead of explaining them, we’re letting our team show you.

First up is Tomas Albanauskas, who was a Bid Manager at the time and is now Head of Commercial Department at Staticus. A major hospital project appeared in a country we’d never worked in before, and competing for it meant going up against some of the largest façade contractors in Europe. Nobody asked Tomas to chase it – he took on two full rounds of pre-qualification paperwork on top of everything else he had going on.

We won. At the time, it was our largest contract ever – worth €47 million. Hear Tomas tell the full story
