Staticus has been selected to design and deliver the unitised façade for Iva Ostra Hospital, a new intensive care facility in central Gothenburg, Sweden. Developed by Västra Götaland Region and Västfastigheter, with Skanska as main contractor and Tyrens leading the architectural design, the project responds to increasing demands on public healthcare buildings: resilience, sustainability, and long-term performance under public scrutiny.
The hospital is scheduled for completion in 2028, with Staticus’ façade scope planned for delivery in 2026.
Designing for resilience in critical healthcare infrastructure
Iva Ostra Hospital is a complex healthcare project where reliability, durability, and operational continuity are essential. Staticus will contribute to these goals through high quality and robust solutions, supported by precise engineering and proven delivery capability.
The project requires careful coordination to meet architectural intent, performance targets, and budget requirements – while ensuring efficient production and installation for a critical public facility.
A dual façade strategy supporting performance and sustainability
The project adopts a dual aluminium façade system:
- An exterior façade system designed for long-term durability and reliable performance
- A separate courtyard façade system optimised for sustainability, energy efficiency, and reduced embodied carbon
This approach allows each façade zone to be purpose-designed, supporting efficient material use and lower CO₂ impact while maintaining strong overall performance and long service life.
Durable materials with a human-centred design approach
The façade incorporates enamelled glass panels, combining durability with architectural expression. The external façade features six shades of green, carefully selected to integrate the hospital into its urban and natural context, while the courtyard elevations use white glass to create a calm, light-filled environment for patients and staff.
A 140 m² integrated art installation, printed directly onto the courtyard glass, replaces standard enamelled panels. This feature supports the hospital’s healing environment while maintaining façade durability, cleanability, and performance – critical factors in healthcare settings.
Delivering long-term value for public healthcare clients
The collaboration between Västra Götaland Region, Västfastigheter, Skanska, Tyrens, and Staticus aims to deliver more than a functional building. Iva Ostra Hospital sets a precedent for how future healthcare facilities can combine sustainability, architectural quality, and delivery certainty.
For Staticus, the project demonstrates how advanced façade engineering can support public-sector clients in managing risk, meeting evolving safety expectations, and delivering infrastructure that will serve communities for decades to come.
