Staticus has been named the winner of the Excellence in Mental Health and Wellbeing category at the Inspiring Women in Construction & Engineering Awards 2026, recognising the impact of our company-wide Mental Health campaign.
The winners were announced on 16 September at the London Hilton on Park Lane. Hosted by Construction News, Ground Engineering and New Civil Engineer, the awards celebrate individuals and organisations helping to create a more inclusive and progressive construction and engineering industry.
The win was one of three shortlist recognitions for Staticus this year. We also reached the shortlist in the Excellence in Senior Leadership and Inspiring Women – Company of the Year categories.
Building mental health into the way we work
Our approach to mental health and wellbeing has been developed around a simple principle: psychological safety should form part of everyday health and safety culture, rather than exist as a separate initiative.
The programme combines prevention, education and accessible professional support. It includes a network of mental health ambassadors, confidential professional support and an anonymous helpline, alongside practical awareness campaigns, and other initiatives.
A particular focus has been placed on frontline leadership. Today, 100% of Staticus site managers have received mental health training, helping managers recognise when colleagues may need support, approach difficult conversations with greater confidence and create environments where people feel comfortable speaking up.
Judges highlight measurable impact
In selecting Staticus as the winner, the judging panel highlighted both the breadth of the programme and the evidence behind it.
The judges described the initiative as:
“A deserving winner: a comprehensive programme rolled out across the international business and supported by a new policy, fresh resources, mental health ambassadors and professional, confidential support including an anonymous helpline.”
They particularly recognised the programme’s four-pillar model, its integration with frontline site leadership and the practical approach to strengthen understanding at different levels of the organisation.
The judging panel also highlighted the evidence supporting the programme’s impact, including 100% site manager training, increased Mental Health First Aid participation, improvements in LTIFR and AFR, and increased near-miss reporting. The latter was recognised as an important indicator of psychological safety – showing that colleagues increasingly feel able to raise concerns and speak openly when something is not right.
The judges also praised the programme’s international rollout and continued development, describing the bottom-up approach as scalable and adaptable across cultures.
Recognition of a collective effort
Staticus was selected from a strong group of finalists in the Excellence in Mental Health and Wellbeing category alongside Balfour Beatty, Costain, Caledonia Water Alliance – a joint venture with Aecom and MGroup Water, QTS Group, Spencer Group and Danny Sullivan Group.
Mental health and wellbeing will continue to evolve as part of our wider approach to health and safety. There is no single campaign or training session that creates psychological safety. It is built through everyday behaviour – by making it easier to speak up, listening when somebody does, and making sure the right support is available when it is needed.
The award is an important milestone for that journey and encouragement to keep improving the way we support our people across Staticus.
